National Biobank Network is established in Brazil
Brazil's Ministry of Health has established the Brazilian Biobank Network (RBBMS), a voluntary national network open to public and private Brazilian biobanks.
Brazil has taken an important step toward stronger health research collaboration. The Ministry of Health has established the Brazilian Biobank Network (RBBMS), a voluntary national network open to public and private Brazilian biobanks.
Coordinated by the Secretariat of Science, Technology and Health Innovation (SCTIE/MS), the network will promote professional training, knowledge exchange, technical guidance, and collaborative and multicentre research, all while preserving each institution's administrative autonomy. It also connects to wider national initiatives such as Genomas Brasil, the National Clinical Research Programme (PPClin), and the Health Economic-Industrial Complex (CEIS).
A coordination framework doesn't automatically unlock access to specimens or data, and ethical, legal and consent requirements still apply. Its real value will depend on implementation: whether it leads to practical partnerships, useful technical resources, and sustained cooperation that supports better diagnoses and treatments within the Unified Health System (SUS).
An initiative worth watching for anyone working in biobanking, precision health, or translational research.
